Be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock. Another hymn, written by Ruth Jones, says, “In times like these you need a Savior, in times like these you need an anchor. When the storm is all around, you cannot avoid the physical difficulties it brings.īut as a Christ-follower, you can ride out the storm anchored to the Rock. A storm called COVID-19 is assailing souls today, breakers roar across the straits of fear, and waves of panic lash out. Centuries have passed and the wooden ships have gone, but the anchors remain, fastened to the rocks that held them. Undersea archaeologists exploring ancient harbors often find the anchors that once kept ships secure, maybe at a time of commerce, or perhaps at a time of storms. Some 150 years ago, Priscilla Jane Owens wrote these lyrics to a hymn, “We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll fastened to the Rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love!” Romans 8:18-19 – For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
